Light Sources

A light source is a complete system capable of illumination, consisting of a lamp, a lamp housing, a power supply, and necessary optics, cables, and hardware.

Sciencetech Light Sources

SCIENCETECH offers light sources from UV to Infrared. A complete light source typically includes the lamp mounted in a housing with condensing/coupling optics, a power supply and all the necessary cables and hardware. For spectroscopic applications, a DC stabilized power supply is required. Arc sources also include a stand-alone igniter to break down the gas and establish the plasma discharge. A full line of accessories such as light condensers and collimators, filters, optical feedback units output stabilization and light shutters are available.

 

We offer several standard types of light sources:

  • Xenon Arc lamp Light Sources.  Arc lamps contain plasma confined in a quartz envelope, which produces radiation from 200nm to 2.5um. They have a very strong ultraviolet output and, since the emitting plasma volume is very small, their brightness in the visible region is approximately one order of magnitude higher than that of QTH sources, making them excellent for illuminating small targets. The main arc bulb types are Xenon (Xe), Mercury (Hg), Mercury-Xenon (Hg-Xe) and metal halide under high pressure for maximum brightness.

     

     

    Quartz Tungsten Halogen. (QTH) Light from QTH lamps is emitted by a heated filament. The filament is enclosed in a quartz envelope filled with gases. The spectral distribution is close to that of a blackbody curve with a color temperature of approximately 3000°K. QTH lamps have a useful spectral output from 300nm to 2.7µm.

     

     

    Deuterium and Dual Deuterium Tungsten . Deuterium (D2) sources are ideal for UV spectroscopy since they have a high ultraviolet output with little visible and infrared emission. UV grade fused silica envelopes can also be used, instead of the standard UV glass envelope, for missions below 180 nm.

     

     

    Infrared Light Source. Sciencetech offers both IR emitter housing Elliptical Reflector or Parabolic Reflector.

  • Coupling our capabilities in light source manufacture and spectroscopy allows us to manufacture complete systems such as our Sciencetech Tunable Light Source.

     

    Our expertise extends to Sciencetech Solar Simulators which are broad band light sources with specific spectral and radiant intensity properties.

The TLS-72-X300 is a representative of a large series of Sciencetech Tunable Light Sources (TLS). This complete plug and play system consists of a lamp housing with Xe lamp, 601-300 touchscreen power supply, 9072 monochromator (1/8 meter), filter wheel (with 4 filters) mounted to a metal baseplate to create a compact, fully assembled illuminator.
SciSpec Software is included for controlling the monochromator and filter wheel.
Each system is pre-aligned during production and packaged with system’s test data and detailed manual.
TLS-72-X300 is advanced system with optical bandpass as small as 0.5 nm over UV and VIS spectral range, and 0.7 over NIR. The overall spectral range is 300-1800 nm. Output bandpass can be varied using included adjustable slits.

This system includes 1 IEC 60320 C13 compatible power cable. Region-specific version must be selected at the time of placing an order (see product 491-9001).

The IRE-12 a coiled filament operating at approximately 900 degrees Celsius when powered with 10 watts. The radiating element is a coil of resistance wire which has a high emissivity in the Infrared spectral region. The coil is supported by a grooved cylindrical substrate of alumina, resulting in the windings being electrically insulated from each other. This contributes to a more uniform radiating source. The unit does not require operation in a sealed atmosphere. The header is fabricated from cold-rolled steel. The support pins are hermetically sealed in glass.

The Glow bar (Globar) is a typical infrared source for the THz researcher. The heating element itself is very low cost, allowing researchers to use them without worry about replacing expensive bulbs or components. The majority of the price for this unit consists of the water cooling (required for vacuum operation), large reflector to efficiently collect the radiation, and housing designed to withstand the high level of vacuum required for THz operation.
This model is specifically designed to mount to the optional External Input Port of the SPS300. If you wish to use a completed Globar unit for your own applications, please speak with a Technical Support specialist.
Please note that this device requires water cooling to operate under vacuum and includes all the lines, but not the water recirculator itself. If purchased as part of a complete SPS300 system, it is included.

Sciencetech is pleased to offer the SS-0.5kW solar simulator. This model is free of chromatic aberration and uses a fully reflective design to create uniformity on target spots, maximizing UV throughput.

The SS-0.5kW includes air-cooled arc lamp housing, 0.5kW ozone free xenon bulb, and adjustable power supply with igniter.

This solar simulator has one filter holder mounting one 76x76mm (3"x3") filter. Available Air Mass filters include AM0, AM1.0, AM1.5 direct and global, and AM2.0. Other filters such as dichroic filters and bandpass filters are available for further modification of the spectrum. Filters are sold separately; please specify which filters should be sent with the solar simulator when ordering.

This instrument features standard horizontal operation, but vertical operation is optional. A folding mirror to change output beam direction is optional.
